Ever wondered why the Tommy Lee Jones movie was called Volcanoe and not Lava seeing as how there was no volcanoe in the movie?

Ever wondered why nobody says things like "Why did anyone think the ending to Independence day actually worked?"

Well someone has finally had the courage to ask these questions and many more.

Mike Nelson takes movie reviewing where it should have always been. In this book of short essays, some on a particular film, some on types of movies or stars, Nelson tells it like it really is. He has concentrated on all those big budget movies that did not quite make the grade and puts forward his own opinions as to why they failed. If you have ever seen Mystery Science Theatre (SCI - FI Channel), then Nelson's sarcastic and witty style will be familiar to you (He is the guy who presents the show and then talks over the soundtrack of the movie)and this same style pervades his writing. If a movie sucks then Mike is not afraid to say it. If his opinions change then he will admit it. At one point a movie 'sucked' and then for the simple reason that everyone's opinion changes it 'blows'.

For an honest, laugh out loud funny, set of movie reviews (and boy are there some bad movies reviewed in this book), in my opinion you could do no better than to buy this book. Absolutely classic.
