Book Reviews of Mommy?Book Review: BEAUTIFUL Summary: 5 Starsthis is not a children's book. of course children will love it, but this is a piece of art and something special for those that love looking through sendak's window. this book is transcendant, joyful, and lovingly nostalgic. to see film icons as 'wild things' is pure magic! there's little story, but this is a visual narrative, sparking dark corners in the noodle. this reminds me of what mystified me in picture books as a kid. great art in this form is rare and it is a treat to know it can still happen!
Book Review: Best Pop up Book Summary: 5 StarsThis is a GREAT book. I sent it to my daughter-in-law for her birthday and she absolutly loved it. I was told my gift was a "home run plus", the best gift ever!" I could not believe the complexity and creativity put into each page. My son stated "this pop up book did things they didn't think could be done in a pop up". Great value and a real keeper!
Book Review: REVIEW OF MOMMY BY MAURICE SENDAK Summary: 5 StarsSendak's imagination and artistic style, along with Yorinks' and Reinhart's skill and expertise with production, have resulted the most imaginative, unique, fun book I've seen in a long time! Since my (grown up) "kids" are great fans of Where the Wild Things Are from way back in their childhoods, I got copies for all of them for Halloween. Everyone who sees the book loves it, and the very intricate and complicated folding and cutting it took to make such complex pop-ups is beyond my understanding; however, it certainly adds an amazingly wonderful dimension to Sendak's book.
Book Review: Great for preschooler scared of monsters Summary: 4 StarsI bought this book for my newly 4-yr-old son who expressed a fear of monsters. When he saw the silly monsters in this book, it was a great jumping off point to address his fears. Plus, he loves the other Maurice Sendak books he has.
Book Review: Not all it's cracked up to be Summary: 2 StarsWe love the Sabuda Reinhart pop-ups, and the pop-ups in this book are ok in comparison. The problem is that my kids just don't get the story, since there is practically no dialogue. My kids are young, 4.5 to 18 months, but even the older one keeps asking, "Who is the mommy?" I have read tons of reviews on this book in parents magazines, and I would have bought it anyway because we like pop-ups- but it is definitely not as good as every review has said. My husband thinks it is just stupid- he does not even really get it!
