Book Review: Amazing Story - Amazing Writer

Monkey Beach is a book that almost anyone with a heart will love - and it might even get to the coldest of souls. Eden Robinson is one of my favorite writers. In Monkey Beach she takes you on a journey to places you've never been before and everything feels so weird and unknown and yet you feel you know these places and these people. You can feel the water in your face and hear the crows. Her prose is elegant but real and pulsing with energy.
The main character Lisamarie Hill ranks up there with other iconic characters in literature, from Lucy in Bram Stoker's Dracula to Eowyn in Lord of the Rings, even Bronte's Jane Eyre or Jo in Little Women.
You can't categorize Eden Robinson as a writer. She is like a cross between Bronte, Alice Walker, Stephen King, Ursula Le Guin, Sherman Alexie, and Judy Blume, with just a hint of Kathy Reichs. I'm not saying she is schizoid just unique and so contemporary without being obscure.
Read this book and give as a gift. In fact, I bet if you give it as a present - people will be impressed.
