Book Review: The best piece of fiction since the stand
Summary: 5 Stars

Buy this book! David Wellington is a master of suspenseful writing! I've been reading his work for almost two years and it's been an amazing and it all started here. Monster Island was the first in a trilogy depicting the small percentage of the world still breathing after the dead decide to take a stroll and devour the living. Wellington breaks new ground in this genre, no other director or author has channeled his love and amazing literary ability into his work with such fervor. When the book was serialized online he had his followers counting the days until a new part was available and now he is being recognized with the publishing of Monster Island. For those of you who are a fan of George Romero then you must read this novel, David serves up a helping of undead fun on a tray of cataclysmic proportions. Brian Keene's "The Rising" was proclaimed to be "A top-notch horrifying thriller", but next to the produce of Mr Wellington's imagination, "The Rising" is about as scary as kissing your grandmothers fuzzy top lip at Christmas. If this isn't your normal cup of tea, buy it for someone else, then borrow it! This is the story of the struggle between the good and the downright mean, a father's worry for his daughter trapped thousands of miles away with a crazed warlord, and a New York City that remains congested months after the traffic falls silent. The book will appeal to all. Please buy this book, It'll be worth your while and you wont be disappointed, I promise. Adrian Padden.

Book Review: Boring...
Summary: 2 Stars

Don't get me wrong here. I bought this book because there is probably no bigger fan of the zombie genre than myself. However, it has to be said that I struggled with this book up until part two, where I promptly abandoned it. You see for me anyway, it was all about the way the authour wrote the thing. When I usually read this type of book, I am looking for excitement and fast pace, with good graphic descriptions of what exactly is going on. None of these things for me were forthcoming when reading this book. The authour seems to have a very un-interesting and boring way he tries to tell the story. Everything seems to be far to complicated. I was lost right away, the particular way the story began, in Africa and then proceeded to the unbelievable scenario of this small group of mercenaries sailing all the way across the planet to apparently find medical supplies in New York...excuse me?... I have read far more exciting and better written stories of this nature, and believe me... I've read them all... I would not recommend this book in any way if you are looking for a well told, uncomplicated, exciting journey...

Book Review: Finally, a literary take on the undead
Summary: 5 Stars

I like books that deal with the end of the world and undead hoards, but I never expect them to be anything other than poorly written exercises is schlock. There have been exceptions: David Moody's Autumn series has been uniformly excellent; J.L. Bourne's Day by Day Armagedon was well paced and engaging (if a little rough around the edges) and now Monster Island joins that short list of well-written zombie novels. Wellington is a solid writer, drawing you into the world he creates and allowing you to engage with his characters. And he can plot too... boy can he plot.

I'm not going to give away anything about the story here, but I urge fans of the genre to read this book, if only to see what David Wellington has bought to the feast.

Simply fantastic.

Book Review: Page turner!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is action packed from start to finish - it doesn't let your heart rest for a minute! The characters are uniquely engaging and each one is well drawn from the teenage Somali girl soldiers to the actual zombies themselves! Wellington also gives the zombie zenre a unique twist by writing half of the novel from the monster's point of view. I'd be surprised if the film rights hadn't already been snapped up. I can't wait to get the next in the series! This is pulp fiction at it's best!

Book Review: disappointing
Summary: 2 Stars

As a huge fan of all things zombie, I was really looking forward to this book, sadly I was disapointed. Its not that its badly written, and he does try to bring some new ideas to genre, but they come off as almost comic, especially Gary the thinking and talking zombie, and a bunch of school girl zombie killers. The zombie theme is a difficult one to realistically expand upon, it has a lot of unwritten rules that it seems are cast in stone. If you want true scares, then I would recommrnd you read world war z by Max Brookes. Maybe davids next book (the secound in the enevitable trilogy), will be better.
