Book Reviews of Monster Island: A Zombie NovelBook Review: a good read with some new takes on zombie apocalypse Summary: 4 StarsA general good read with some original takes on the nuances of a zombie apocalypse. I've read many zombie novels and this one will stand out in memory for a while. Recommended.
Book Review: Pulp Zombie Summary: 4 StarsForgive me. I couldn't resist using "Pulp Zombie" in the title. I really enjoyed this book. This book won't be winning the Nobel prize in literature, but it was a really fun read!
I really enjoyed how the author set up the U.N Weapons inspector to align himself with some really scary schoolgirl soldiers. Then mayhem ensues!
I was very amused by Gary's the Zombie's perspective of events. I actually felt a little bad for him. Nice job Mr. Wellington!
So, if you like reading about Zombies (and perhaps understanding their psyche) I recommend this book. After reading "Monster Island" and "World War Z" I could handle any type of zombie situation.
Book Review: not the best account of zombies Summary: 3 StarsIt is a fun read, but it is not the true account of zombies. Wellington really strains here as we are made to believe that the inept liberal left is actually an intelligent life force or something. If he had just left his current views of politics out of it maybe the story would have had more clout. It becomes cluttered because like that TAK cop Culligan or whatever his name was from that movie called desperation, he puts words in like dropped bombs. "The zombies were moving Rumsfeld is an idiot" and things like that. Just too choppy and biased, the writer knows how to write he just needs to stick with the story and stop taking sections of some blog type mentality and putting them in throughout the book. If I wanted to hear one sided political rants I would tune in to Rosie O'Donnell, who of course is not smart enough to be an actual zombie, but probably listens to modest mouse and bon jovi like the rest of them.
Book Review: Uber-zombies Summary: 3 StarsWhile enjoying the book to some degree I don't like the Uber-zombie that has an internet mind-link to control other zombies. I also prefer human over animal zombies. It certainly is possible for a disease (or effect) to be limited to one species. I have read both of Wellington's zombie books and will probably read any others he writes but I won't keep them for my collection. I will resale them as I have already done with these.
Book Review: Poorly edited Summary: 2 StarsThis book has many grammatical and spelling errors -- most egregiously, it consistently spells "all right" as one word -- "alright." Don't these people have editors, or at least a spell check?
It's also not incredibly well-written. The writing is choppy and just kind of boring. If you want to read a zombie novel, you're much better off with Max Brooks' "World War Z."
