Book Review: Impenetrable

I tried. I really, really tried, but ultimate failure after page 20. I'm sure his heart is in the right place, but he made a cross for his own back by deciding to make the book academic. Mistake. You can pepper your prose with big words, but ultimately you are going to alienate the fans that want the benefit of the insight. There are some excellent points made, but why not make them without the knowing academic verbiage. There's another book to be written in simplistic terms. Nice try, Gavin, but if you write another book, make it more accessible to the non-cognoscenti please. It's not so much the insightfulness that I'll remember. It's the verbose over-analysis of EVERYTHING. The contextualisation of end-of-line "Whoa-oh"s and so forth. For Christ's sake Gavin, it's a song, leave it alone, and enjoy it for what it is. The Limerick and Manchester conferences were nothing on this book. It's too dense with over analysis and words that don't need to be there.
Truly, truly disappointed.
