Book Review: Blown Away!

If you were poorly mothered (your mother was emotionally unavailable, absent, distracted, depressed, manic or plain naive) and sometimes find yourself wondering, "How did I manage to turn out even this well?", maybe people say "I'm surprised you're so sane with a mum like that"; OR, "Why do I feel so very wounded by my mother?" or "Why am I so afraid of what I'll be like with children of my own?"; then PLEASE READ THIS. It made me ry and cry and yet gave me comfort and support to keep pushing ahead, determined to be a 'healing mother' to my own children. This isn't a get in touch with your inner child thing. It's a practical book. You look forward and not back. Kathryn writes with such an easy woman-to-woman style too (herself poorly mothered). This book is reasearched so deeply (full of many true accounts and conversation with other mums (and would be mums) that you cannot fail to see yourself in here somewhere, whatever your own regrettable story.
This book has an almighty punch; the power to change the course of many lives. Not just the wounded daughters of weak mothers but also the daughters of the mothers it heals. I'm blown away.
