Book Review: More about America than Gatling.
Summary: 3 Stars
The book is laced through with tantalising tidbits of technical information about Gatling's invention, some interesting anecdotes about his life, and his interactions with the leading figures of the times. Unfortunately the rest is a long and repetitive monologue on the place of weapons development in American history, what American culture means, what it means to be American, the American idea of Empire, and other things about America. Had the subtitle simply replaced 'everything' with 'America', it would have been more fitting. It's a shame that the genuinely interesting parts weren't more developed.
