Book Review: A few too many leaps
Summary: 4 Stars
I like Monk - both the TV show and the book series - but I did find that this book had a few too many leaps from Monk's nature to be believable.
What I like about Monk is that he doesn't have a special power (except inasmuch as his ability to notice things out of place is a power), and I know that the author wanted to write a fish out of water book. The problem is that Monk is already a fish out of water. I didn't buy that his compulsion to see his therapist would trump his other fears. I think that the deus ex machina magic pill that allows Mr. Monk to become a different person when he flies is cheating (as an author).
Still, this is not to be confused with serious literature and can be entertaining. As I said on a different review, if you have never seen the TV show, you will unlikely find the character of Monk endearing. Quirks that seem acceptable when you know him (as we do after more than 7 seasons) seem to be lost in print.
