Book Reviews of Mr. Monk and The Blue Flu

Book Review: Monk is better on his own
Summary: 3 Stars

I admit I read this one right after the first Monk book, without a break, so maybe that made it less interesting. It is a challenge for any series writer to come up with a really new theme or twist each time. In this story, Monk ends up partnered with a number of other odd police experts who also have their own personal assistants. But their quirkiness seemed just quirky, as opposed to Monk's really well-developed handicap and ability. These other characters just diverted attention from the Monk we all know and love.

Book Review: An Excellent Addon To a Great Series
Summary: 5 Stars

Entangled in a police walk out, Monk gets back his badge and is promoted to Captain of a squad of misfits. The novel follows Monk and the other detectives on their quest to solve an influx of murder mysteries.

Those who watch the series know that San Francisco's greatest detective Adrian Monk, is also their most entertaining one. Lee Goldberg's take on this obsessive compulsive detective sticks to the TV series, but Goldberg also ventures into ground that will probably never be touched by the producers on TV.

The whole series offers a quick, but very entertaining mystery read. They are great to read between the television airings and the new season starting this July. All in all, the tv series is great, and Lee Goldberg keeps up the standards.

Book Review: Monk And The Blue Flu
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first Monk novel and I loved it! It had been a while since I had found a book that kept me guessing and laughing out loud. It was a real pleasure to come home and read it each night. I think the books are even better than the show. I promptly bought all the other Mr. Monk novels and already have "Mr. Monk Goes To Germany" and "Mr. Monk Is Miserable" on pre-order. My only complaint is I wish they were coming out faster!

Book Review: Mr. Monk Seems Almost Normal...
Summary: 5 Stars

Fans of Monk know he wants two things desperate - solving the murder of his wife Trudy and getting his badge back. He may not have gotten any closer to the first, but in this book he goes back on the force - at least temporarily, while the police force is calling in sick to force a better contract.

However, Captain Monk's force consists of other misfits, each with their own quirks and assistants of their own. With the city in a crime wave sparked by a serial killer who makes off with the left shoes of his female victims, and seemingly random killings striking the city, it's up to Monk to use the unique talents of his squad to bring order to chaos in his own inimitable way.

Book Review: Books as good as the TV show!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this and three others of the Monk mystery novels. Written in first person by "Natalie" -- they are a really good read. I like to just relax with a book and re-read. Love the show but the books are just as pleasant. The humor comes right through, and you can see Mr. Monk as he rolls his shoulders....Lee Goldberg is obviously part of the writing team for the show. Even references in the books to past shows! Super! A++++
