Book Review: Excellent at age 8 and again as I share with my little one

Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle was a book that I enjoyed tremendously at age 8 when it was read aloud to me by my third grade teacher. Every day the entire class looked forward to hearing another chapter describing the shennanigans of some child that was having issues that we were having at that time (ie didn't want to go to bed, didn't want to eat, didn't want to clean up your room etc...).
At 32 years of age, I once again am enjoying Betty MacDonald's creative way of capturing her audience with fun filled stories as I share them with my little one. This is a classic, along with anything by Beverly Cleary or Judy Blume.

Reading some of the reviews of Betty MacDonalds Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books it is 'too bad' that some reviewers look at the writings soooo seriously. They were meant, I am sure, to be read in a humorous, yet also helpful manner if the reader would like; not to be read and 'analyzed'!! Readers should take what they want from the writings but in a light-hearted way.I work as a psychotherapist. MacDonalds humorous writing and 'cures' have been linked to the way Milton Erickson M.D., a psychiatrist who spent much time with people helping them overcome difficulties in their lives, saw the world and life. He often 'assigned' homework for individuals and families having serious difficulties. Many of the 'assignments' were similar to to Mrs. Piggle-Wiggles 'cures'; and they worked!!
For anyone who enjoys reading these stories, I would recommend they look up Milton Erickson and Jay Hayley's writings(which are enjoyable to read) and you will see the similarities.....some difficult, serious problems resolved with 'serious humorous' 'cures'.
Book Review: Fabulous!

I believe this book series to be one of the most unique and creative series I've found. I read them all as a child, and I still find the stories funny today. Yes, they're mildly weird and unconventional, but they teach lessons in a very creative and fun way. Silly? Yes. Strange? Maybe. But nonetheless, one of my favorites. After all, who said books have to be un-silly?! The character is endearing, her stories use a ton of imagination, and allow children to use their as well. It doesn't have to make complete sense to be a wonderful book. I highly recommend them.Book Review: Family Favorite

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle was 'The Nanny'/'Dr.Phil' of her time. These stories offer parents and children interesting ways to deal with daily chores and struggles that can sometimes seem overwhelming. I enjoyed reading this book as a child and couldn't resist purchasing it for my girls 4 and 2 to enjoy. We have been working our way through various childrens' novels as part of our bedtime ritual. Books like this are good for holding the attention of children at various levels of reading and reading comprehension. These stories have also served as a springboard for discussion in our family about finding creative new ways to accomplish the many tasks that need to be done to keep the household running. Some of the material may seem dated, but it's definetely a classic.Book Review: Good enough to read again!

I bought this book because several moms had mentioned it to me as a great book for my daughter. At first she didn't want to read it, so I started to read it to her. The first couple of sentences caught all 4 of my children's attention and after the first 3 paragraphs, they were hooked. My 10 year old daughter took over the book and is now reading it for the second time because, she says, it's so funny! My 8 year old son is next in line. Even I am hooked and am purchasing the rest of the series.
