Book Reviews of Much Ado about Nothing (Cambridge School Shakespeare)

Book Review: A superb film - one of the best ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have seen this film countless times and never tire of it. it is a must for anybody, whether they know the story, study Shakespeare, love the actors or want a good old love story!

Book Review: Top Banana!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've only just seen this film and think it's absolutely fantastic. Blokes my age (18) aren't supposed to "like" Shakespeare but I'm just getting started! Films like this help a great deal especially with directors and actors such as Branagh. I also saw Branagh's Hamlet and thought that was fantastic to so I'm becoming a real fan of his! Also, some films made in the early '90s are obviously made in the early '90s, but apart from some rather younger looking actors (such as Denzel Washington) it is timeless and could have been made yeaterday. The setting is perfect, the story delightful and the acting superb. A real Top Banana!

Book Review: This has to be my all time favourite film!
Summary: 5 Stars

Boasting a fabulous cast, 'Much Ado' has something for everyone - action, romance and comedy.

I highly recommend this film!

Book Review: Brilliant feel-good film...
Summary: 5 Stars

Having just started to study Much Ado About Nothing, I got to see this excellent film in class. And I must say, Branagh has done an excellent job directing (noteworthy are the single take dancing scene at the end, and the slow-motion capture of each of the film's stars as they ride towards Messina at the beginning), and he has also done an excellent job acting, and bringing together a top-notch cast. Keanu Reeves plays the mostly silent villain whose grudge is grounded in a defeat in battle many years ago. Beatrice and Benedick really steal the show, capturing the audiences attention with their incredible wit and wry comments.
Dogberry and Verges, played by Michael Keaton (Batman) and Ben Elton (playwright) are, in my opinion, excellent, although some of Dogberry's way with words doesn't exactly come across in Keaton's throaty, edgy portrayal of him.
Kate Beckinsale fills the part of Hero more than competently (she's cute enough for you to feel sorry for her treatment), and another noteable performances comes from Denzel Washington, as a deep and insightful Don Pedro.
It's colourful, it's happy, it's true to the text (very few cuts, and all minor), and it's a great accompaniment to the text if you are studying it.
Get it! Now!

Book Review: Great Adaptation
Summary: 5 Stars

Even now, virtually 10 years on it remains a great film and the colour pageantry and mirth Branagh renders is without doubt his best Shakespearean work to hit the big screen. However beware! the DVD is woefully short of extra's in fact...there isn't any! No commentaries (surely they could of resurrected a Barry Norman one from 93 ,no commentary and no trailers-all rather dull.Oh well I suppose it is Shakespeare but apart from being forced to buy it, in this era of 'migration' from Video to DVD, 'I'd pause a while and stick with Video, unless they delete it of course in the meantime.Either way it remains a great experience-shame about the extra's though
