Book Reviews of Much Ado about Nothing (Cambridge School Shakespeare)

Book Review: Minor Shakespeare - Major movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Much Ado... was never one of Shakespeares best plays. But Branagh really knew what it took when he turned it in to this true masterpiece. I have seen a lot of fancy plays and movies build over Shakespeares plays, but this one is really THE BEST. When I first saw it in the cinema, my expectations were low, I had seen so many mediocre movie adaptions. But I got wiser, I left the cinema in a fabulous mood. I recommended it to almost everybody I knew, and I went to see it a few more times myself. My friends still thank me for recommending this gem.

Book Review: Fun in the sun - Shakespeare style!
Summary: 5 Stars

Kenneth Branagh leads the all star cast in an adaptation of Will Shakespeare's play. Emma Thompson, Richard Briers, Denzel Washington, Keanu Reeves....... to name but a few, do a v.good job with this gentle romantic comedy. Brilliant turn from Michael Keaton and Ben Elton as a bungling pair of "policemen". Each scene is a joy - the verbal sparring between Thompson and Branagh is sure to put a smile on your face. Although the Shakespearean language can confuse some at times, the meaning of the words are very clearly acted out.

Book Review: Fatally Flawed
Summary: 2 Stars

I reviewed this film when the DVD was first released, but amazon, in their wisdom didn't publish it. so...

Lets not get this wrong. I love this film. I really do.
On the other hand this DVD is a travesty.

The picture quality is the same as the video, that is not as good as the copy i made off the TV! Sound quality is excellent (unlike the video).

No extras. Poor picture. Great sound and acting.

I don't know if the US version is any better, but it can't be any worse.

Book Review: A big disappointment
Summary: 2 Stars

I love this film and I have seen it a dozen times. I taped it when it was on TV, once in French and another time in English with French subtitles. I thought that with the DVD I would be able to watch the film in English with Shakespeare's text as subtitles. What a disappointment! The audio is just English (I might have liked to show the film to friends who do not understand English) and as far as subtitles are concerned, there are none! Not even English ones! What's the use of a DVD if it doesn't offer a wide choice of languages and subtitles?

Book Review: Amazing !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Much Ado About Nothing has got to be one of the best films i have seen. Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson are FANTASTIC ! I am studying Much ado as my A level text, and this film is the BEST adaption!! Its a must see ! Even is Shakespeare is not your thing, give this a go, for it ia amazing !
