Book Reviews of My Boys Can Swim!: The Official Guy's Guide to Pregnancy

Book Review: Great for the father to be
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband enjoyed this book and learning about what to expect. The humor in it is great and the topics are right on target in each trimester. My husband kept telling me what he learned from the book.

Book Review: For dumb dads
Summary: 1 Stars

This was a totally dumbed down book. My husband actually likes being a father and was insulted by this book. This is for a dad who likes to sit on the couch, drink beers, and not do stuff with his kids. Sorry book.

Book Review: yeah...whatever
Summary: 1 Stars

The author tries to have that cute "Dave Barry" thing but instead just plays on old stereotypes that all guys do is watch football and don't know thing about women's bodies or what happens with a pregnancy. My wife and I are expecting our first child and I was thinking this may be informative. Instead it was a quick, one day read with jokes that wouldn't even be funny enough for Mad Magazine on a bad day. Sorry, but this one wasn't for me and felt like a waste of money.

Book Review: great
Summary: 5 Stars

I found this book to be entertaining and informational. It is great for husbands who are having trouble adjusting to the pregnancy or husbands who just need more informaion to understand what mom is going through. It gives this feeling that you are not alone -- everyone deals with these same problems.

Book Review: Fun Prep for Expectant Dads
Summary: 4 Stars

With this book, Ian Davis did a great job of relating material to his target audience with a humorous and informative delivery. It was never boring, and his insights were amusing and insightful.

Bear in mind, this is not a reference book for expecting fathers. If you're looking to this book to thoroughly guide you through the rigors of pregnancy and parenthood, this isn't the right book. You might want to try The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-to-Be, Second Edition, which is a good thorough reference guide that helps to prepare you for the realistic responsibilities that lie ahead. Instead, this is a humorous glossy overview of some of the things you might expect over the next 9 months.

My only gripes are that the book is VERY short, and that it's pricey for what it is. I finished the book in one day during my daily commute, which is a 35 minute bus ride each way. And considering it's basically about the size and length of a pocket pamphlet, it's somewhat overpriced at $10.

However, these are the only things holding it back from being a 5-star review. It's a fun read, and it does accomplish what it sets out to do... to give expectant fathers some perspective on the rigors they are about to face during their introduction to fatherhood.
