Book Reviews of My Grandfather's Son: A MemoirBook Review: Uh...get a grip!! Summary: 1 StarsHow truly sad it is when a tainted Supreme Court Justice, and there are quite a few, has to write a maudlin "apology" to justify his actions prior to his appointment to the High Court and to "explain" his CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES...which are based upon questionable reasoning. To add insult to injury, this work re-opens the Anita Hill debacle. Suffice it to say, that if it took as long as it did for the Senate to confirm Mr. Thomas to his current position, and that there was a previous history of his inappropriate conduct with others besides Ms. Hill, there must be a significant reason for questioning the Justice's integrity in this issue, and others as well. It seems like all the neo-Conservatives are trying to rewrite history before the real historians can properly evalute their conduct. In the process, this "learned man" has unilaterally condemned liberals. If his view of the world is so biased, how can he HONESTLY ajudicate the Constitutional issues that confront this nation? How sad. How truly sad that the High Court has fallen upon such hard times as to become the bastion of neo-Conservative ideology. Justice Thomas' work reflects such tawdry things.
Book Review: Interesting Take on Race Summary: 2 StarsInteresting book. But what I find ironic is that Clarence Thomas doesn't get it. He would NOT be sitting on the supreme court today if he wasn't black. He would not have gotten into Yale law if he was not black. And he still can't confess to the fact that he was offensive to Anita Hill and that it was wrong. It was wrong then and it is still wrong. He comes across in this book as an angry man, and until he comes forward and admits to his wrong doings, he will die an angry man.
By a used copy of this book.
Book Review: It Changed My Perception Summary: 5 StarsOften we make judgments based upon preconceived views and ideology. I, too, had misconceived notions about Clarence Thomas. I heard that he was a traitor to his race. However, by reading this book, I gained insight into one of the most misunderstood people in our society. As an African American, I can say that his message of self-reliance is very pertinent and needed. The irony of this "so-called traitor"--is that his message of self-reliance is similar to the views held by Malcolm X, Marcus Garvey and Frederick Douglas. This is a must read for all Americans, especially African Americans.
Book Review: Essential Summary: 5 StarsClarence Thomas' incredible story is an absolute must read for people on all sides of the aisle. Republicans will be gratified by the race-baiting, simple-minded, hypocritical, determination to make the world out in manichean terms. Democrats will be gratified at the jaw-dropping lying and misrepresentations and the bottomless chutzpah of a man who insists that he be taken on his own terms and yet cannot understand that others may differ from him for reasons other than race. Justice Thomas is a strong man who has been warped by the struggles in his life. That he has achieved such power is to his good, but no one else's, really.
Book Review: Save your money and buy a comic book! Summary: 1 StarsThe commentary by Vaughn A Carney; Helen Mcikeever; TheLyingThief; and A Wannabee "AW" are a must read to get the real feel of how bad this "dude" really is. C.Thomas is the most shallow of jurists to ever sit on the great court. To think that he replaced one of the Great modern jurists, let alone person of color. He's just a petty winning guy who thinks that life has given him a raw deal. Well wake up dude, life is tough and whether you're white, black or in between you make of life what you can. My father lived through four death camps each one worse than the one before. Where other men died he lived, not because he blamed fate or others. He did what he had to in order to survive. He lived through a hell that none of us could ever imagine. Survivors of the Holocaust know what I'm talking about. So stop winning about how bad you had it. If you sat across the table from my father and placed your life on the table of life would you want to take his life in exchange? Would you want to face death each and every day? Or would you take back your own sorry life regardless of how bad you had it? You're crying because you couldn't make it in law after graduating from Yale Law. Going to an Ivy League school is no guarantee of anything, look at George Bush! Give me a break! What surprised me is that my father was never bitter about what had happened to him. And you even as a justice of the highest court in the greatest nation on earth are bitter about what happened to you during your election to that court! Quite frankly you should never have been confirmed. If there are those who do want to read your sorry story, they should go to the library; or wait until it gets to the dollar bin in the used and second hand bookstores. You were a joke during the confirmation and now you've made yourself into a clown.
