The attempted use of Scots English in these two stories is poorly done and often makes no sense. The first story, Hannah Howell's "The Hunt," is the worst offender of the two. Now, I know, not a lot of readers will be familiar with the proper use of this dialect, but it sure drove me nuts how badly it was done. If you're going to use it that much, do it right.
Then there's the horse... In the second story, Linsay Sands' "The Rescue," the hero's horse follows the heroine everywhere. As in, it ends up sleeping in her rooms at the castle, walking all over the kitchen, eating in the dining hall!!! Is it possible that the author and the editor didn't know exactly what horses leave behind wherever they go? I couldn't read the story because I kept imagining the trails of horse droppings in every scene. And that horse is in almost every scene of the book that I was able to get through!
I am a huge fan of historical romance and I realize that historical accuracy is not a requirement for a good story in this genre, but a certain lack of horse poop is. Talk about not being able to suspend my disbelief!
