Book Reviews of My Sister's Keeper: A NovelBook Review: Fantastic story Summary: 5 StarsI was completely mesmerised by this book; it is unputdownable. Along with tackling some contemporary moral issues with tact and care, the author knits together a surprising but coherent set of subplots into a compelling story. It's a book I'll be buying repeatedly, as I'm sure I'll be handing my copy out to friends.
Book Review: Wondertime Summary: 4 StarsI had to put my life on hold from the first page. This book is riveting; the characters are beautifully rounded, the plots and sub-plots never lose their thread and the ending is astounding. Although not a happy read it is always trans-fixing; obviously written by a woman who knows a thing or two about writing as an art. There are more questions than answers - that's the beauty of the book. Buy it for all your friends! [I can only give this book 4 stars because there's only 1 book in the world I'd give 5. So far!]
Book Review: A lovely surprise of a book Summary: 5 StarsI bought this book only because it was in the 3 for 2 sale at Waterstones, never having heard of it, or the author, before. Reading it got slightly uncomfortable at points - for one, the moral dilemma at the crux of the plot had me squirming because it's one of those situations you just don't wanna think about - secondly, characters take it in turn to narrate chapters, and though this generally works well, the fact they all use the same introspective reflective tone can get a bit eerie. One review inside the cover says the book ends with a big twist, so I started trying to spot it from the start - no chance, it came totally out of nowhere. And when it finally turned up, it had me bawling my eyes out (I haven't cried at a book since I read "The Last Battle" (Chronicles of Narnia) at the age of about 8). Seriously, I cried for about 10 minutes, and I don't even have kids. At the same time, the book isn't an emotional blackmail attempt using cliches as tear-jerkers, but simply, gently and originally written. It comments in a roundabout way on families, parenting, and growing up. I'm tempted to get hold of some more of the author's work, but I'm worried it won't live up to this one.
Book Review: What A Powerful Novel Summary: 5 StarsWhat A Powerful Novel What A Powerful Novel Though this book is written in a fictitious form, I could feel the Non Fiction feelings breaking through. Whether or not this author used a real life circumstance to write this or the story came out of thin air, does not matter to me. What does matter-What does speak clearly to me in this hard to put down book is that abuse comes in all forms. this child, her spare parts, the fact that her birth was only to save her sister is heartwrenching to say the least. In my eyes this book ranks up there highly with a few of the Non Fiction books, such as Nightmares Echo and Sickened. Also recommended: Nightmares Echo and Sickened
Book Review: Fantastic!!! Summary: 5 StarsWhat a great book! It makes you realise how lucky you are not to have problems like these! A very powerful and unpredictable story, presenting dilemas that are impossible to know how you would react to in that situation. Read it - you will not be disappointed.
