Book Reviews of My Sister's Keeper: A Novel

Book Review: Good Book
Summary: 4 Stars

This was my first book of Jodi Picoult's long history of novels. I read it in one day because I was inthralled. The writing is not fantastic, in fact, it is somewhat mediocre, but I was not reading because of her style. I was reading because I was fascinated with her characters. I related to her dysfunctional family and felt as if I were one of the struggling family members. This is a captivating read because Ms. Picoult is able to weave the reader into the story so that she experiences the pain along with the joy of the family members.

Book Review: jodi does it again!
Summary: 5 Stars

To what lengths would you go to save your sick child?
The Fitzgeralds are faced with this dilemma in Picoult's latest novel. Anna Fitzgerald has always known she's been conceived to help "heal" her older sister,Kate, but when mom and dad want her to donate a kidney to save her sister, she balks and hires a lawyer to medically emancipate her from her family. This book draws you in from page one and keeps you hooked right until the last page. Picoult's ability to take a fairly routine question and shake it up really causes the reader to think and question his/her own beliefs. What would YOU do if
kate were your daughter? Have tissues handy when you read this "page-turner" that will make a perfect group discussion book.

Book Review: A Definite Keeper!
Summary: 5 Stars

Yet again, Ms. Picoult puts a quality work out there. It is getting harder and harder to pick a favorite! Her latest release, My Sister's Keeper, presents the issue of ideal gene selection for the purpose of conceiving a child who will be a perfect donor match for a terminally ill toddler.

To what lengths would any of us go to save our loved one? What if it was at the expense of another loved one? Where do we draw the line at what constitutes quality of life?

In fine Picoult style, Jodi builds and thickens the plot, so that, what may have started out as a cut and dry decision to us, leaves us questioning our thought process and moral position with each layer. A wonderful read that I'll be passing on to others in anticipation of some great discussions in the future.

Book Review: Phenomenal
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan, and when she told me the plot of this book at a signing, I got chills. She didn't let me down. As usual, her knack for details and subplots is excellent, creating a tremendously engaging story. Though it was clear to me who I sympathized with, I nonetheless found myself questioning my own moral principles, something I remember doing with Mercy, The Pact, and Salem Falls as well.

I've become accustomed to Picoult's end-of-novel twists, but the series of events at the end of this one left me reeling. This may supplant Plain Truth as my personal favorite of hers.

Book Review: A page turner and a good read
Summary: 4 Stars

Took this book out the library yesterday and 1pm, finished it this morning at 10am. Even though this is a "typical" Jodi Picoult book in formula - court scenes and surprise ending, I just love the stories this woman weaves and the insights she has. The subject is close to my own heart, having a child with a fatal disease, and I was brought to tears many times throughout the story (have the tissues ready for the end of the book). I would recommend it, especially if you enjoyed Picoult's other books.
