Book Reviews of My Sister's Keeper: A Novel

Book Review: Wow
Summary: 5 Stars

I really wasnt expecting to like this book. It was difficult to get into at first as the narrator changed with each chapter, but after a while you just absorb that and focus on the celebration and tradgey that made this a really great book. I still dont know whether I side with the kids or the parents but I do know I wasnt expecting the ending.

Will definately be looking out for her other works.

Book Review: My Sister's Keeper
Summary: 4 Stars

I picked up this book as an afer thought not having read any of her previous books and saw it on the Richard and Judy list, but once picked up I couldn't put it down. My emotions keep changing from anger for Anna, then understanding for Sara and despair for Jessie while all the time you had Katie's needs on your mind. Then Brian and Campbell appeared as strong figures but both had underlying emotions going on. It touches all sphere of life and emotions from being a child not heard to parents trying to do their best. The end certainly had a twist and broke my heart. Well worth a read by both sexes and many ages.

Book Review: How far should we go?
Summary: 5 Stars

I have only recently discovered Jodi Picoult, in fact the last book I read was The Pact written by her. I was so impressed by that book that I didn't believe this book could be as good; it was good to be proved wrong. From just these two books I think Jodi Picoult has jumped to the top of my favourite authors list. Like The Pact, the writing style is one that I haven't enjoyed in the past where each chapter is from the point of view of a different person or in a different time but which Jodi Picoult is proving is a useful tool to provide the full information for a story.

This story is also a gritty issue where the parents have a third child, genetically selected to be a donor for her sister with cancer. I've heard in the news about families who want to do this, but haven't really thought what happens beyond the birth of the child. Whereas this books takes you through that journey where Anna is repeatedly in hospitable throughout her thirteen years to provide donations for her sister. Her sister now needs a kidney and Anna has had enough.

Having finished the book I still don't know which side of the argument I stand on and when I think of the reactions of the characters they are so well written I honestly can't say I would behave any differently if I was in any of their positions.

Book Review: A must-read
Summary: 5 Stars

I am still reeling from this book. It is way up there with all the "best books I have ever read". The ending was totally unexpected and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Book Review: What a great book!
Summary: 5 Stars

This book had me gripped from start to finish. The emotions of all the characters are clearly expressed and the ending, although tragic, perfectly fits the story. I thought that constantly changing from one character narrating to another would be confusing but their views were so well defined it was really easy to pick up. It was nice to read a book from a different point of view to the person who everyone is normally focusing on and this enhanced the epilogue. This is a brilliant book and I would recommend it to anyone.
