Book Reviews of My Sister's Keeper: A Novel

Book Review: A tear jerking read.
Summary: 5 Stars

This has to be the most moving story I have ever read. The characters are so strong in a time when their world is falling apart - they are an inspiration. The style of writing is smooth with each chapter coming from a different person. This allows you into the hearts of everyone involved in the situation. They are a couple of stories branching off the main story which also keeps your interest. There is a big twist at the end and I didn't see it coming at all. The book really makes you appreciate what you have and teaches you to live your life to the full. You will cry - I guarantee it. Brilliant.

Book Review: Unbelievable...
Summary: 1 Stars

...I refer, of course, to the fact that this book has almost exclusively positive reviews. I find this astonishing.

This book was recommended to me and I thought the premise was very interesting. Its execution, however, is clich?d beyond belief and leapt instantly to the top of my 'most hated books' list. It is full of two dimensional characters and sledgehammer-esque subtlety. The running 'gags', aside from being distinctly unfunny, seemed designed specifically to make me want to hit something. Hard. (I refer, most particularly, to that about the 'service dog', for those who have read it). I would rather pan-fry my own spleen in garlic butter and partake of it accompanied by a full-bodied Chianti than read this drivel again.

Of course, given that everyone else in the world seems to have enjoyed this book, the suspicion is beginning form that perhaps there are two version of it currently available in shops. There's the well-written discussion of this contentious issue, full of interesting characters and amusing sub-plots, and then there's the big pile of a*se I accidentally picked up. I shall leave you to draw your own conclusion on that one.

Book Review: Brilliant
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this at a supermarket mainly because it was cheap and I needed something for a long journey. I read the first page and from then on found it extremely difficult to put down. The author takes a highly controversial subject and manages to weave a story around it without sounding biased or overly sentimental. The characters are all believable and the plot is put together well. I started reading this with a definite viewpoint on the subject, but by the end I had seen the dilemma from all sides and it has definitely made me think again. There are various points during the story where you will laugh and cry but the ending is one of the most emotional I have read. Whatever your views on this topic, read this book - I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Book Review: The best read this year.
Summary: 5 Stars

This book opened my eyes and made me think. It's also a story about a family's love for each other in really desperate lives.
I loved it and the ending just left me with tears running down my face. One book I wont let go to my many bookreading friends, and one that I can't wait to read again..

Book Review: Wonderfully thought provoking
Summary: 5 Stars

This book covers every angle of hope and grief. It looks at the feelings of both parents and siblings in the fight to prevent the death of a child. Yet it still manages to provide a beautifully crafted story of love and hope. Any parent cannot fail to be touched. I wept.
