Book Reviews of Mystic RiverBook Review: What a Book ! Summary: 5 Stars
The good news is that Mystic River is great on so many levels, great plot,
characters you can identify with, extremely well written, holds your interest till the end, and on and on. The bad news is that it is such a great book that if you are like me and kind of undisciplined, you end up not being able to do much of anything else till you finish the book. Unqualifed recommendation. Five stars all the way.
Book Review: When the past and present collide .. Summary: 4 Stars
Sean Devine and Jimmy Marcus knew each other because their fathers worked together. Dave Boyle used to play with them sometimes. One day the three boys were in the street when a strange car pulled up. One boy got into the car, the other two didn't. Each of their lives changed on that day.
Twenty five years later, Sean Devine is a homicide detective. Jimmy Marcus is an ex-convict who owns a corner store, and Dave Boyle is struggling with the demons of the past. Jimmy's daughter is found murdered and Sean is assigned to investigate.
In this gripping, fast-paced story, none of the characters are as simple or straightforward as they may appear on first acquaintance. Mr Lehane moves effortlessly through multiple points of view providing insights into each of the major characters, glimpses of issues unresolved and of possibilities to be explored. The past is not a comfortable place, and neither the present nor the future seems to hold much promise either. Who killed Katie Marcus, and why? What do Sean, Jimmy and Dave still have in common after 25 years?
This is a novel where tragic heroes continue to make mistakes, where actions are misinterpreted, assumptions are often incorrect and where hope remains elusive. It is a novel where I found myself thinking `What if?' in a number of places. This is the first Dennis Lehane novel I've read: it won't be the last.

Book Review: Wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
This book was so intense and it was so tragic all at the same time. I cared about all the characters and could understand their emotions well. This is my second Dennis Lehane book (Shutter Island was first) and I have to say, both of his books I've read were absolutely perfect. He doesn't waste tons of pages on useless words - he can say something so powerful in few words - and that is something I appreciate. I hate to read long winded descriptions of mundane things - and Lehane is most certainly not verbose. Wonderful book - I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed. I listened to this book in audio book format, and the reader was absolutely brilliant!
Book Review: amazing Summary: 5 Stars
Beautiful writing, brilliant plot, nuanced, interesting characters. Heartbreaking but gritty and real...this is one of those books you cannot put down.
