Book Review: Wills Shines a Spotlight on the Reach of the Slavepower

I have read the book and listened to the tapes. The audio presentation is masterly and Will's is a wonderful narrator of this very unorthodox book. "Negro President" is half a biography of Timothy Pickering, a vocal and formidable Jefferson opponent, and half an evocation of the true nature of the slavepower and how it drove critical founding decision-making. A scholarly, yet accessible, performance by Mr. Wills, who clearly does not relish any attempt to place Jefferson in disrepute, but cannot rein in his regard for the truth about this enigmatic president, in all his complexity.
