Book Review: A neuroanatomy atlas with black and white photos only

I purchased this before starting the neuroanatomy block at my medical school and was disappointed with the fact that the text features only black and white photos. They are, however, highly detailed and of good resolution. Nonetheless, I found that I did not in fact get much use out of this text during the course. Our course directors provided us with in-house brain and spinal cord images that were full color. I realize that the color of CNS slices is somewhat arbitrary and a result of the fixation process. However, color still really helps your eyes and memory when trying to learn what is effectively a map of a very foreign land.
I can't say much more about this atlas because I admittedly did not spend much time reading it, choosing instead to use the materials given to us by our professors. Perhaps others would find it highly useful; it is true that there aren't many other alternatives on the market. Perhaps I will appreciate this text more in the future, now that I already have a foundation in neuroanatomy. However, for first-time learners, I don't particularly recommend this text.
