I agree with those reviewers who consider this book to be a typical "fusion," flex-your-culiary-muscle, run-of-the-expensive-mill, competent, much like the others (but maybe a little different, but so are the others a little different, cookbook. It's fun to read the gushing reviews, honestly made me chuckle a little because I've been to hundreds of NYC restaurants, and read hundreds of cookbooks, and one could gush much the same gush for all of them. Nothing truly different here, but it is basically competent and in line (if you're looking for in line) with much of the "new American" cookbooks of today's era. I've seen enough "new American..." in the past decade or two, and you'll see this title for the next two millenia and then some, to know exactly what it means (c'mon, you know too). This one is about combining flavors, yeah, yeah, they all do it. The food is no more competent than the other books listed by the other reviewer; but it is competent. If the economy treats you well, choose them all! But don't believe the hype that this is somehow a cut above the rest, until you've tried the rest. Pardon my Swedish: it ain't.
