Book Review: A DeMille Fan---but a little disappointed
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a big Nelson DeMille fan and have been looking forward to the release of this book. Was it fun to read? Yes! Was I glad I read it? Yes! Was it his best? No! I knew the ending about half way through the book....plus I hate it when a character is resurrected from the dead. It was fun to read...but definitely not one of his best. More of a James Patterson than a Tom Clancy.

Book Review: A Full Nelson
Summary: 5 Stars

Though I have read a few books by Mr. Demille, this is the first John Corey book I have experienced. Mr. Demille shows his breadth as a writer in this book, having a wise-cracking, Myron Bolitar-like main character such as Corey.
The time is July of 2001. John Corey's wife, a fellow F.B.I. agent, baits him into looking into the crash of TWA Flight 800, which was pronounced a victim of mechanical failure five years earlier by the investigating authorities.
Corey learns of a couple that may have accidentally taped the event while filming themselves gettin' jiggy with it on the beach. Against the wishes of the of the F.B.I. and any other government agency, Corey digs into the incident, trying to locate the couple and subsequently the tape.
The book picks up speed, ending the only way it can. Enjoy!

Book Review: A GOOD BUY ***
Summary: 4 Stars

Nelson DeMille does a wonderful job of of meshing fact and fiction to make this a great read. His main characters are always people I'd like to know ... this one was no exception. The pace slowed down mid-way through but quickly picked up again and ended with a bang ... and a question! Enjoy.

Book Review: A Gift to his Fans
Summary: 5 Stars

I couldn't put it down. It was one of the few books that I walked around with - even woke up in the middle of the night to read. It was great to be back with that smartass, John Corey - and it was good to see his softer side - so in love is he with Kate Mayfield. I think DeMille got their feelings and musing just right for two professionals who are trying to keep their eye on the ball and each other at the same time. DeMille tackled a difficult, serious subject - the crash of TWA 800 - one that many of us have wanted to read more about, think more about - and he gave us the reality of the investigation, as well as some intriguing and plausible alternatives. I was with him every step of the way, through the results of what must have been grueling research. His plot did everything a plot should do - grabbed me, pulled me, lured me. It's amazing how he makes the connection with what you know is coming - but you don't know how it will affect the outcome. DeMille delivers a great story, wrapped in his own, inimitably readable style. This was a book worth waiting for!

Book Review: A Good Read
Summary: 4 Stars

Having read all of Nelson DeMillešs books, I found NIGHT FALL, by far, the simplest. So, on the one hand I was a bit amazed that such a talented author would pen such an unadorned story, yet on the other hand I have respect for what he did achieve. I have a number of friends from Long Island and also know a person in the military who was suspect about how the salvage of TWA
Flight 800 was handled. Thus, after the crash occurred, I spent some time studying the numerous articles, such as in Newsweek, with the detailed photos of the rebuilt plane and the simple explanation that the explosion was caused by spark inside one of the empty fuel tanks. Yet, there was always that nagging problem of the streak of light that so many witnesses saw, which was so easily dismissed by a veritable spineless mass media.

When DeMille wrote Plum Island, he set the stage for describing the possibility of a bioterrorist act, but then moved the plot into an entirely different realm thereby avoiding any real attempt to take on the establishment. That, to me was disappointing and I feared he might do the same in this book. But he didnšt do that at all. He took on the very difficult and perhaps brave task of using a work of fiction to make a bold statement about gaping inconsistencies in the official account of what happened to Flight 800. And for this reason, Night Fall stuns. I recommend this book for that reason alone, but also because I just enjoy being back in the wise-cracker alter ego world of DeMillešs hero, John Corey.
