Book Reviews of Night Magic

Book Review: Good but not Phantom of the Opera
Summary: 4 Stars

While the story is mildly similar; Erik taking Marisa to his house in a boat at night, having Marisa sing to him, Erik being an architect, and living in his house totally secluded from others (except from his assistant Raskin). The characters in "Night Magic" are quite different from those in "Phantom of the Opera" so don't expect a modern day Erik and Christine. Marisa the "Christine" is actually the aggressor in the relationship and she is not so horrified by Erik's face. It seems that his face is not even an obstacle that she must overcome as she loves him right away (which may be a little unrealistic but it's fantasy so I will excuse it). She lives to make him happy and wants him to trust in her love. While Erik is full of doubt so he works hard to please her because he believes she will inevitably leave him someday. While it was a little angsty at times and a little slow once they were married, it still kept me interested. It was a fun fantasy novel. And I love how they never lost the passion in their love for one another even after many years of marriage. The only thing that annoyed me was that Erik did not want to have a child with Marisa because he was afraid his child would be "ashamed" of him which I thought was a silly.

Book Review: Good, but not a keeper
Summary: 4 Stars

I actually enjoyed this take on Beauty and the Beast, enough to finish it in 3 hours straight. Like a previous reviewer stated however, it could have been much better if some parts had been written differently.

The writing style was great and kept me turning page after page and not skim, and the plot worked well until the end.

However, the annoyging parts to me were Erik's refusal to have a child because of his ugly experiences. I would have thought after being married 14 years with Rissa would have changed his mindset. The whole almost rape thing towards the end didn't seem to fit with the seamless plot of the book as a obstacle to waking up and changing personalities. That portion of the plot seemed a little contrived and a little off w/ the heroine. Why she would meet some stranger is just completely out of character for her, especially seeing someone suicide earlier. Other than that I would recommend this book. I enjoyed it but I don't plan on keeping or re-reading it. Be warned that the book is set from 1968-1987

Book Review: Great Sex!
Summary: 5 Stars

There is no other author in the world who can write sex scenes like Charlotte Vale Allen! This was a great escape fantasy read because God knows there are no men on this planet as devoted as Erik! She's a gifted writer who can draw you into her stories like a magnet. I highly recommend her books. Illusions is by far my favorite of her books.

Book Review: Great read!
Summary: 5 Stars

One of my favorite books! It made me sad it ended! The only odd thing was the age thing, other than that, I absolutely loved it!! A great romance story!
