I found this book in the library and borrowed it for my 2 year old daughter primarily for the colorful illustration. She loves it. She will bring it to me daily, saying "Day!, book!", and we read it together. She likes the shapes and colors. Through her excitement for this book, she is learning her colors and shapes in a fun-filled way.
As stated in other reviews, some of the opposites are a little unconventional for a 2 year old.
For example, ABSTRACT/ CONCRETE. "Abstract" is an abstract painting, and "concrete" is a cow. My daughter will call out the shapes in the painting, and for the cow..."MOO!" She doesn't need to know the difference! I'm happy that she loves to read with me, and this book is perfect. Because she likes it. As for the CANDY/ PILLS comparison, we'll get to that when she can differentiate between the two. For now they are RED CIRCLES and CANDY (I keep medications out of her reach, so I'm not worried about her thinking medicine is candy).
As she grows, we can explore the more complex opposites and discuss them.
Check your library and, for free, you can see for yourself how your child will respond to it. After taking the book out twice in a row, I'm buying it.
