I finally gave up on this last night 50 pages into it. While the story was interesting, the writing style was heavy handed and forced to the point of being unreadable. The writer was so obsessed with being cute and showing off how clever he was, that it totally got in the way of the story. To compare this to Tom Robbins, or even Christopher Moore, is laughable.
