Book Reviews of No, David!

Book Review: "No, David" is an exact reflection of my childhood.
Summary: 5 Stars

One day, my girlfriend showed me "No, David" while we were shopping in a mall bookstore. I stared in disbelief as I paged through the book! I was at once entertained and reminded of my own childhood, because that David acted so much like I did at that age!

My parents have often recounted my adventures, and say that I always played imaginative games with my food and attempted to fly through the house as a superhero. And, yes, they even recounted my own naked dash down the neighborhood street.

Imagine my surprise when my girlfriend gave me a copy of "No, David" as a Christmas gift. This book is now one of my most prized possessions.

Thank you, David Shannon, for the wonderful memories!

Book Review: "Tried and True"
Summary: 5 Stars

Imagine twenty four and five year old students "reading" a book about a little boy who is into everything. It's hysterical. In one voice they chant the lines of David's harried mother...and they can see why she is at her wits end. The book was brought in by the prevoius teacher and has been a great tool in our Pre-K class. It helps them to understand that even when frazzled parents (or teachers) raise their voice or tell them "NO", that they are still loved...

The art work is quirky and imaginative, just like my students. They really relate to this book. It is by far their favorite...and one of mine. Oh, and my thirty year old husband loves it too!

Book Review: 'Bad Boy'
Summary: 5 Stars

It is about a boy named David that is always bad.For example, healways tracks dirt in the house, runs through naked to not take a shower ,and plays with his food.Until something special happens.

I really liked this book because it was funny and you learn a lesson.

Juan

Book Review: ...
Summary: 3 Stars

I gotta say, I didn't particularly like this book. Like others, I found it overwhelmingly negative. I know kids don't always see it the same way we do, but I just... I can't deal with it myself. Too many "nos" and not enough helping him act the way he's supposed to.

Book Review: 21 month old loves book
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm glad to see so many positive comments regarding this book. Some parents have expressed concern with this book teaching bad habits to their kids. But this book provides the opportunity for parents to teach what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior for their kids. This book is a great way for parents to explain what David is doing wrong (sneaking into the cookies), his emotions (happy, sad, mad), what type of foods and toys he has (language development), and what happens to David when he gets in trouble (time-out). My 21 month old enjoys reading this book over and over again and we discuss the different "David" scenarios. Instead of sheltering our kids from bad behavior, we need to take these examples and use them as learning opportunities. Our kids will learn bad behavior from people and situations all around them and it is our job as parents to show our kids how we deal with inappropriate behavior.
