Book Reviews of No, David!

Book Review: Yes, David, I love you
Summary: 5 Stars

I don't know why my sixteen-month old daugter loves this book. Perhaps it's the repetition, or illustrations, or the emphasis with which the phrases are read. I DO know that she now has an insatiable interest in books, uses the word 'no' appropriately, and anticipates the resolution at the end of this and "David Gets in Trouble."

Anything you can do to teach children to love books at an early age will greatly increase their likelihood of success in school. This was a hilarious way to get my daughter hooked on books.

Book Review: Yes, yes, David!
Summary: 5 Stars

As a Kindergarten teacher and a lover of children's literature, I can tell you that No, David! is a very special book. This story does not need a lot of words in order to be captivating. Instead, it grabs the reader because it so accurately depicts the spirit of the child. Children will be children, and what to them is great fun, to an adult can be a definite no-no. It is through David's innocence, and his precarious foothold in the world, that we are instantly transported back to our own childhoods, where we too had to learn that there were consequences for our actions. I can't imagine that there is a person out there that cannot identify with the round-headed, gap-toothed David.

No, David! is one of those rare books that helps young children believe that they can read. Part of learning to read is memorization, and little ones quickly remember the exact words on each page of this book that they love to look at over and over again. And of course, there is no need to ask which page is their favorite. You'll know it when you see it, and when they see it, they can't stop laughing!

David Shannon has created several more entries in his "David" series, but for sure, the original is a modern children's literature classic.

Book Review: You have been here before
Summary: 5 Stars

I was really happy after I read this book to my daughter. She pick the book out of her school library and she was so happy when she came home. This book is a motavator for young children to illistrate their own books. It is a learning tool. The book also shows when save memories what can happen.

Book Review: You've got to be kidding 1 Stars

I found this book, in one word, offensive. Especially if your son is named David as mine is. My six-year old received this as a christmas present from his first grade teacher and he was mortified. To him, it personified that he was bad. Not only does it send the wrong message to a child (they will not get that the moral of the story is that they are loved no matter what)the illustrations are justly described above as "maniacal", "feral eyes" etc.and just outright disturbing. Don't waste your money. There are so many other positive choices available that this book has no other appropriate place but the trash can.

Book Review: cute
Summary: 4 Stars

Very cute little book. This book givies a good illustration of the misbehavior of "Little David" and it teaches your child along with yourself "Right or Wrong" I find that you and your child will find get humor in this composition.
