Book Reviews of No, David!

Book Review: Disturbing?? Maybe...but engaging also!
Summary: 4 Stars

My son's daycare has these (among many other books). He chooses these same books every day to read! He knows them by heart and now points at the words as he says them! Now, when I first saw him with the books, and looked at them myself, I was a little disturbed at the content. But, you know what? It's REAL! You can't protect your children from every situation, but you can teach them how to recognize bad behavior and respond to it. Let's face it, some kids are not taught right from wrong and are just plain mean. If they're not exposed to it, they won't learn it! There are consequences to David's actions...he has to stay after school and clean the desk, etc. Because David is so bad, they learn to recognize bad behavior and how they should be acting. And it encourages reading because it is engaging!! And isn't that really what we need?? It's the parent's responsibility to discuss the content with the child and guide them in appropriate behavior...not prohibit them from reading it. But, others believe in book burning events I guess!

Book Review: Excellent Book for Generating Ideas for Kids to Write About
Summary: 5 Stars

As a fourth grade teacher, I am always on the lookout for picture books that lead to the generation of fun and lively writing ideas. This book, as well as the other two David books, generate a lot of connections on the part of fourth graders, either because they themselves recognize being in David's predicaments, or they see their siblings in those situations. We have had great fun writing and sharing stories generated after listening to the David stories. Creative-thinking teachers will immediately see the potential in this book and will not pass up an opportunity to use it in their classrooms, right along with the classics.

Book Review: Excellent book for toddlers needing to work on language development
Summary: 5 Stars

My son was having issues with speech and getting interested in the books we were reading to his siblings. These David books are perfect for him. There are not a lot of words, but there is a lot going on to talk about in each picture that helps him interact and get interested in reading.

Book Review: FUN!
Summary: 5 Stars

I understand the concerns that some of the parents have expressed. I was worried about teaching my toddler to mimic the bad behavior, or teaching her to say "no". But for us, this has been just plain fun. My 2 1/2 year old first read this book at school, and when she couldn't stop talking about it I bought a copy. It's given us something to laugh about together, even when the book is on the shelf. If you have established good, positive, discipline in your household, you don't have to shy away from this book. Take it for what it is -- FUN!

Book Review: Favorite book in our elementary class
Summary: 5 Stars

No, David is the favorite book in our 1st and 2nd grade class because it is so funny. The children laugh out loud at the pictures. Plus, it is a great beginning reader! The children liked it so much that I bought it for my six year old granddaughter, and as she read it she laughed out loud too, and was completely delighted.
