Book Reviews of Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker CookbookBook Review: Not useful to me, but it may be what others are looking for.... Summary: 3 StarsDisclaimer: I am writing this review on the content only-I have not yet tried any of the recipes in the book.
I took this book out from my local library and I am glad that I did not purchase it. The sections that discuss types of slow cookers and how to use them is very informative. As I was reading the recipes, I got the feeling that I would need a small, medium and large size crock to try all of the ones that looked good. Things like oatmeal seemed mostly made in small/medium crocks-I have a large...I could double the batch, but since its just myself and my husband, it wouldn't be very useful for us.
I also didn't like there are multiple recipes for oatmeal, multiple recipes for the same soup-it seemed like a lot of the recipes were very similar and therefore not enough variety.
I did not even look at the recipes for side dishes not cooked in a slow cooker. I was looking at the book because it is a SLOW COOKER book.
I did not find things like poached eggs in the crockpot handy. The cook time seemed the same as poached eggs on the stove....why bother?
I think there are 6-7 recipes that are different and look good, so I will copy those down. I think the book may be worth the price if you have multiple crocks.
Book Review: It's all good! Summary: 5 StarsI've been cooking with slow cookers for decades but this book even taught me a few new tricks. A lot of crock pot cookbooks are very boring and rely too heavily on Campbell's soup. So far, everything we've tried has been fantastic. I've never cooked fish in a crockpot before! Or pasta! Or polenta! Even poached eggs can be cooked in the crockpot (I never knew that)! And there's not a can of condensed soup to be found! Yum!
Book Review: Great cookbook! Summary: 5 StarsWhen we bought the new slowcooker, we realized that we didn't have a lot of recipes for using it besides throw in a roast, some potatoes and carrots and let it go. Boy, does this cookbook expand our horizons! The recipes are expansive, tasty and fairly easy to make. If you've got a slowcooker gathering dust in your kitchen, you need this book.
Book Review: Slow Cooker Cookbook Summary: 4 StarsLots of up-to-date recipes for the crock pot using fresh ingredients...not just big cuts of meat with canned soup! Helps me to take advantage of the convenience of slow cooking more often.
Book Review: Great Cookbook !! Summary: 5 StarsLots of wonderful recipes for the crockpot. Lots of great ideas that you wouldn't normally think about. The first section about how to properly use a crockpot is worth the price of the book alone. Very informative, and saved me lots of grief. Now I know how to cook with a crockpot with lots of confidence. It's like taking an in depth college course on how to use a crockot.
Wonderful book, I highly recommend it.
