Actually I give this 2.5 stars. Some richly drawn minor characters are worth half a star in their own right. I had never read any Dean Koontz before "Odd Thomas." And I stumbled on young Odd only by chance. He is an uncommonly endearing character and "Odd Thomas" was deeply satisfying fiction. Later, I read "Brother Odd" and enjoyed it immensly as well. Not so "Odd Hours." Mr. Koontz has a wonderful way with words. But this book is far too chatty - we are over 20 chapters in before we even understand what the threat is. Then events unfold too slowly. The last sentence of this book should have ended not with a period but with an ellipsis followed by "to be continued." Leaving a story open ended is one thing but unjustifiably incomplete is something else again. Glad I just borrowed this one from the library.
