Book Review: What is it with Maine?
Summary: 4 Stars

Sheesh, with horror novels being set in Maine alot (ala Stephen King and now Jack Ketchum), I don't think I want to go there. But seriously, _Offspring_, for me, was a fun book to read. It's grusome and visually inspiring with Ketchum's writing style. This is the first Ketchum book I've read and didn't even know this was actually a sequel. Having not read _Off Season_ I can't compare the two as other reviewers have done. So I'm basing my rating on this book alone.

What we get is a small clan of nomadic humans living independently along the Maine coast. The downfall is they lean towards cannibalism within their society along with needing to steal young to enlarge their tiny tribe. Turns out this happened eleven years earlier and then Sheriff Peters thought they "got them all". Evidently they missed a few and after a decade, the cannibals have resurfaced and begun their dread filled lifestyle again. The group has been running their survellience on a cabin in the woods where Amy, David and baby Melissa live. The time has come for the group to steal the baby only to be surprised when visiting friend Claire and son Luke mess up their plans to a degree. This book takes off from the start and runs strongly in a fast-paced page turning event.

I'm definitely going to be picking up more Ketchum novels. This one reminded me of "The Hills Have Eyes" mixed in with "Wrong Turn". I'm a bit of a gore/horror lover so I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There's no moral to the story / life lesson to be learned here but it's an exciting read.

Book Review: a chilling read
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a big horror fan, whether its monsters, zombies or aliens. I really enjoy the apocalyptic stories too.
This book was wonderful. If you are fan of King and Laymon, then this book won't disappoint.
