Book Review: A charming children's book about people who are different.
Summary: 5 Stars
I so enjoyed Mr. Matott's Ol' Lady Grizelda and Mr. Woods' intricate and creative illistrations. This is a charming story about a strange old woman who lives by herself and seems to generate alot of myth and rumors about herself because of her odd activities and silly singing habits. A scared but curious neighbor boy decides to see for himself and finds Ol' Lady Grizelda to be indeed odd but very sweet and fun to boot! The book is written in verse and is not too simplistic so as to challenge an older child to new ideas. There is a thoughtful glossary of unfamiliar terms in the back of the book to help a young reader figure out what's going on. Above all this book teaches young people to be tolerant of others who are criticized by or different from the norm. It's teaches kids that misunderstandings can happen and that we all just have to see for ourselves. It's beautiful to look at too.
