Book Reviews of Olivia

Book Review: For all worn out mother pigs
Summary: 5 Stars

Olivia is actually channeling my almost three year old son! This is a lovely, funny book for children as well as their worn out parents. Children will identify with Olivia's imaginative ideas and reluctance to nap and parents will identify with Olivia's worn out mom. Witty and beautifully illustrated.

Book Review: For my niece who is named "Olivia"
Summary: 5 Stars

Such a great character. A perfect series of books for my niece! She wants the story read to her every night!

Book Review: Four bright stars and a full moon
Summary: 4 Stars

In Olivia, Ian Falconer captures the effervescent spirit of six-year-old Olivia, showing her quirks and charms with deft skill in an amazing display of charcoal sketching accented with vibrant splashes of red. The trio of white, red, and black form a powerful trio of color that capture the confidence and boisterous Olivia's high-energy personality.

Mr. Falconer slips in enough surprises- the Jackson Pollock painting and the rather astounding sand castle, for instance-to add more zip to this lively romp. This book is a welcome breath of fresh air to the field of children's literature, where all too often, well, let's just say the books are pretty poorly conceived.

The text and story are short and economical, providing just enough details to justify the elaborate, funny illustrations, which are the reason you may every now and then pull out this book for another look even when the children are asleep or out in the treehouse.

Book Review: Fun and imaginative
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this children's book! I read this book for my college children's literature class and had to smother my laughter as I read it in the campus library. Olivia is such an adorable character, as wild as she is. I'm sure we all have an Olivia in our lives that she will remind us of--children, siblings, cousins, students, etc. The layout of the book was extremely unconventional, I like Falconer's unusual color scheme of black, white, and red. I also liked that real art pieces were shown in the story.

Book Review: GREAT PICTURES
Summary: 5 Stars

I GOT THIS FOR MY NEICE FOR CHRISTMAS
AND WHEN I SAW THE PICTURES I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT!
I HAVE TO SAY MY 5 YEAR OLD NEICE IS A DOG LOVER TO THE MAX!
AND THERE FOR I THINK THATS WHY SHE DIDN'T GET INTO IT AS MUCH AS ANOTHER BOOK I GOT CALLED WIDGET(ABOUT A DOG). THAT SAYED I THINK IT WILL CONTINUE TO GROW ON HER LIKE IT HAS ALREADY BEEN AS HER INTEREST IN BOOKS GROWS.GREAT BOOK FOR ADULTS AS WELL AS KIDS! I ALSO LOVE THE MUSEUM ART IN THE BOOK.
