Book Reviews of One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey (AnniversBook Review: Good for the soul! Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful, heart-warming story of one man making a life for himself in Alaska. You become very involved in his daily routines, his observations of life. His attitude about everything is so positive, it lifts you. I was sad when the book finished. Read this book and be blessed.
Book Review: Good reading Summary: 5 StarsEnjoyed this asit was a personal account of a man who went his own way and lived his dream. As it was written almost on a
day to day experience you got a real feel of how life was like, how the weather was and how he enjoyed his lifestyle, so simple as it was. Also he showed some lovely turns of phrase, would like to read more of his works, if there is any ? Very practical for anyone also who would like to do a self build.
Book Review: Great read Summary: 5 StarsThis is an excellent book really enjoyable a great inspiration to follow your dreams. It's one of them books that puts you right in the the picture.Highly recommended.
Book Review: Soul food of a book Summary: 5 StarsI LOVED this book. I wasn't sure if it was a book I'd finish before I started to read it when I realised it was a day to day account of one man's progress towards the building of a cabin, plus all the accoutriments required and day to day experiences throughout the seasons, to realise a dream of living alone in the wildersness of Alaska. Once I started it however I was HOOKED. What also came through was the 'measure of the man, which was inspirational, his joys and his quiet strength of character. 'One Mans Wilderness' will never be 'passed on'. Like 'North to the Night', it will be 'lent' only to people I trust to return it.
Book Review: One man's wilderness Summary: 4 StarsThis book is written mostly in a diary format, so don't expect a flowing piece of prose with a plot that twists and turns. This is the story of how Richard Proenneke moved out to the wilderness of Alaska, built his own log cabin and his exploits as an amatuer naturalist.
I bought it because of my interest in joinery and the great outdoors, and I wasn't disappointed. There are some beautiful photographs illustrating the cabin being built and some wildlife in both summer and winter scenes.
With very little imagination you can imagine that if you had the right tools and some sandwiches you could do the same, the reality would be different but it's great to dream!!
Recommended read.
PS There is als a DVD available of the same story called Alone in the Wilderness, it is in NTSC format for American TV but plays fine on the average PC. Highly recomended.
