Book Reviews of PS, I Love You

Book Review: Not what I had expected
Summary: 2 Stars

The main theme in this book is about coping with the loss of a loved one, in this case Holly's husband Gerry, who died prematurely due to a terrible illness.
I shall not go through the whole synopsis as many of the reviewers have done so before me and the book description above is also explanatory. At the risk of sounding unpopular (I see many voted with 5 stars) my own 2 stars refer to what I think was a poorly executed book. The concepts of loss and love are interesting and some of the ensuing situations are even described humorously despite the sad main subject. However all the characters, with the exception of Holly perhaps, are underdeveloped, most descriptions repetitive and the storyline predictable at best.

Perhaps my negativity about this book is due to the fact that I was expecting not Shakespeare certainly, but something more maturely written, as it belongs to one of the `adult' categories of Amazon. I think that the age target here is between 15 / 20 year-olds. Nothing wrong with that however. If you are reading me and you fall into that age group, I think you might enjoy it much more than I did.

Book Review: P.S. Don't Waste Your Money.
Summary: 2 Stars

How is this book an "international bestseller"?? The idea for the book is great, but Cecelia and her proofreader? Not so much. I can't even concentrate on what's going on because the writing is just. that. bad. I think I could have written a better novel in 8th grade. The only reason I rated the book a 2 rather than a 1 is because I couldn't get past the first 100 pages, so maybe it gets better, but from other reviews, I highly doubt it. Go see the movie, I've heard it's good.

Book Review: Poor Execution on a good idea!
Summary: 2 Stars

The premise for the story is good. But, the writing is amateurish, too silly and not believable. Worse, there is no character development. Got halfway through and couldn't finish it. There are too many good writers to spend time with this one.

Book Review: Reads like a "chick flick" - Loved it!
Summary: 4 Stars

I really liked it. Nothing too deep, just a nice read about friends and friendship. I hope my husband never leaves me a "list". hee hee.

Book Review: Right Back At Ya!
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a very good story detailing the year after Holly's young husband passed away from a brain tumor. He keeps his promise and leaves her notes to open each month to help her reach one goal at a time until she makes it through an entire year. Written with great sensitivity and often raucus humor, and wit, Cecelia Ahern does a marvelous job of letting us in the world Holly finds at first to be meaningless. Introduces us to her family and friends who mourn with her to their individual ability and then moves the story along to healing and forward thinking with hope and love.
