Book Review: A Remarkable Book

From the outset, I should note that I've always been extremely skeptical of these "self-help" and "self-improvement" books because 1) they seem to only point out the obvious to you and 2) even if you learn something new, it probably won't affect your life all that much. I delved into this book with the same amount of skepticism, having picked up this book at a local bookstore following the recommendations by the authors of Princeton Review's Word Smart, 4th Edition (Smart Guides) in the first chapter. Only when I finished it did I know that this inexpensive paperback with a dully sketched cover was a life-revolutionizing treasure in disguise.
Throughout my entire life (and especially during high school), I had an extraordinarily difficult time retaining information -- even with hours and hours of studying. This book helped changed everything around.
First of all, the information Mr. Lorayne teaches in this book is surprisingly easy to grasp. Memorizing material via repetition (rote memory) is often frustrating and a complete waste of time, and Mr. Lorayne agrees. Whether you struggle with remembering dates or a definition of a particular word, Mr. Lorayne shows you how to make the information you're trying to memorize memorable, funny, and personal to you.
For students, I cannot recommend this book enough. Students who are struggling in school because of his/her so-called "bad memory" will be the ones who benefit the most from this book. Using the techniques I learned in this book, I memorized all 1,505 words in Princeton Review's Word Smart in less than three weeks! This is not to boast of my accomplishment but to show you what can be achieved by applying Mr. Lorayne's memory techniques. If you are a struggling student, I guarantee that your grades will go up by at least one letter grade if you apply the techniques of this book in your academic life.
I hope this book will help you as much as it has helped me. Please read this book! You will not regret it.
