Book Review: Doesn't live up to the hype.

I read Fitch's debut novel, "White Oleander". I was hoping this would match up, but despite not being a sequel, it doesn't compare to that at all.
It's a story about a girl named Josie who ends up living with her late boyfriend's mother immediately after his death and going through more self-exploration and self-discovery as she continues to live her life without him.
For being twenty years old, Josie acts at least twice her age. While this produces idealistic and elaborate descriptions and pose that would appeal to readers of that age group, I found it too unbelievable for both the character and the story. Most people that age would be busying themselves with work or furthering their education. She speaks of her grief and sorrow over losing precious Michael as though they were already married and had been living in a nursing home for years.
The book felt forced, tedious, and pointless. Many times, I had to force myself to keep reading page after page, which grew into chapter after chapter. As with her previous novel, Fitch's use of graceful and poetic phrases help the reader soar into perfect imagery and lush lives, but this book just wasn't good for me. I would recommend it to anyone who recently suffered the end of a long-term relationship, marriage, death, or other sort of serious life events.
