This one was of the first Painter books I bought (several years ago) and I still feel it is one of the best, if not the best out there. It teaches the basics, but it also shows how to create paintings from photographs and have them look like they were hand painted! In addition, most of the other books I have on using Painter don't seem to reach the "fine art" level Mr. Sutton does. It's the difference between looking at paintings in a gallery or at a craft fair.
Painter XI came out a bit ago, so I have already pre-ordered the version for that because I haven't been able to incorporate some of the extra material that is provided on the disk for Painter X into Painter XI. It may be possible--but I'll just buy the updated book.
