Book Reviews of PassionBook Review: Superb Summary: 5 Stars
Now this book is the epitome of romance. No wonder there are 135 people who have already reviewed the book. I will not go into the plot as it has been thoroughly done by the numerous readers before me. I would like to add however, that this was one of those books that I couldn't put down and surpassed my expectations by far when I read it.
For a romance book the sex is smouldering hot which was a pleasant surprise as the details in historical romances are usually left to a minimum. The strong attraction between the two main characters is emphasized by their all consuming lust and lack of inhibitions in the bedroom and in public places (would you believe?) That's something new in a book set in the early 1800s. I hardly believe that such behaviour was prevalent but I enjoyed reading it nonetheless.
Valdez is a promising writer, balancing the romance, sex, suspense and adventure in a story whose characters are realistic as well as fascinating. I loved the hero who was not only devastating but also torn between his call of duty and love . Both the main characters but also the secondary were intriguing having a definite role to play and not there to simply fill the pages. There is plenty to read as there are over three hundred pages of fine print that never drag. Where is the sequel to this book, Ms Valdez?
Book Review: Surpising new voice in the romance genre Summary: 5 Stars
I read this book based on glowing recommends from my friends which of course, made me a little leery, when my expectations are high a book will rarely live up to it. I am so happy to say that Passion lived up to my expectations, not down.
Passion is a book that is highly erotic (which I love, definitely not for the faint of heart) but I find I need more then hot sex for a book to really grab me. I need characters I care about and a believable conflict and this story had both in spades.
I felt their joy, passion and heartbreak. Ms Valdez really had a special voice all her own and I can't believe that this is the first book by here. I am definitely adding her onto my very small auto-buy list.
Book Review: Surprised Summary: 4 Stars
I have a problem reading new authors. I guess I have just been disappointed too many times. So I kept trying not to like this book, but it didn't work. I put it down half a dozen times before giving up and finishing it in one day.
Passion is a sensual woman who suffered through a marriage that lacked any physical pleasure. She did not expect what she felt when she met Mark. Mark is a strong honorable man and is trying to do the right thing for his brother's future. But his feelings for Passion can not be denied. It might be just me but I love a book where the two people know early on that they want each other. They don't have to confess everything right away, but I hate it when an author wastes my time with constant bickering and hateful behavior and then tries to convince me that the two characters loved each other all along. What a joke! In this book there is none of that. The two main characters know at least early on that they have explosive chemistry and don't try to fight it. They are willing to try at least to have a physical relationship, expecting it to fade and fizzle out. To their mutual dismay it just gets stronger and once their emotions are involved it gets even more intense.
I won't say any more.
It's a great book. Read it.
Book Review: Surprising but enjoyable if you stick with it Summary: 4 Stars
Okay, I'll admit. I almost put this book down. It began like an erotic novel, the language was surprising for a historical romance, and I felt no warmth for the characters. They basically started going at it immediately, sight unseen, and it turned me off! Yet the book got better, more emotionally involved, etc. It was quite surprising, really...
Book Review: Surprisingly emotional(ly satisfying) Summary: 5 Stars
Like many have said already, this book has pretty explicit, steamy love scenes, and perhaps because of that I wasn't expecting it to be so moving or contain much depth. But under all the sexy love scenes, there's a solid emotional love story, and Valdez does a remarkable job putting the two main characters in a rock-and-hard-place solution, then getting them out. Normally I don't read erotica because of the flimsy stories and often ridiculous plots, but Passion (which in my mind isn't quite erotica, though it IS plenty erotic) really sets the bar for steamy historical romances.
This is the first time I've discovered a new author whose book makes me practical champ at the bit for her subsequent releases. I will definitely be buying her following books, the next of which will incorporate two side characters from Passion. I hope to see much more of this author in the future.
