Book Reviews of Passion

Book Review: ANACONDA
Summary: 5 Stars

This book is not for everyone as some reviewers have already written. If you are not into ten pages long love scenes littered with the f-word and the description of Mark's anaconda then this is not the book for you. The poor heroine, Passion was walking bow legged throughout the book. What I liked about "Passion" is that at first Mark just wanted Passion to be his sex mate but as the story progresses he falls madly in love with her. The last couple of chapters actually made me cry as Mark discovers why he is afraid to pursue a serious relationship with the woman he loves. The next book, "Patience" (story of one of Passion's younger sisters and Mark's brother) by this author seems like it will never be released. By the preview at the end of this book it promises to be spicier. I look forward in reading that one if it ever gets published.

Summary: 5 Stars

A widow of two years, Passion Elizabeth Dare Redington is in London to help prepare for her young cousin's coming out. Raised by her father, a widowed vicar, duty and obligation have defined her life. Still young and beautiful, Passion has resigned herself to a life without a man's love. She once dreamed of an intimate connection with her husband, but the harsh reality of her loveless marriage smothered all such hope. Her late husband's cruel indifference, both physical and emotional, sent Passion into a shell of restrained propriety. On a visit to the Crystal Palace, Passion is shocked out of this lonely cocoon.

Saved from a falling palm tree by a beautiful stranger, Passion's dormant desire is awakened. His bold handling should offend her, but she is strangely drawn to this sensual man as his discrete pursuit continues throughout the exhibitions. Finally, the two desperate strangers abandon themselves behind a screen. Exchanging only first names, there is no mistake they are there simply to sate their sensual appetites. Passion discovers a lust and desire she thought not to exist. Even though she knows it should be a one time encounter, she agrees to meet him again.

Mark Randolph Hawkmore, Earl of Langley, has come to the Crystal Palace to meet with a lady. While in the china exhibit, he encounters a most captivatingly sensual woman. Too bad it is not Charlotte Lawrence, whom he is supposed to be meeting, the woman his mother is pressuring him to marry. Fascinated by this stranger's seductive beauty and obvious interest, he gives into temptation. Mark's interlude with Passion leaves him overwhelmed and wanting more.

Other than sexual satisfaction, Mark has had scarce use for women. This is of little surprise, as he grew up with a vicious and unfaithful mother. Unhappy with her unwanted husband, Mark was always an easy target for her resentment. All her love and affection has been reserved for her younger son, Matthew. Best friends and brothers, there is nothing Mark would not do for Matthew. However, when one of his mother's past indiscretions leads to a blackmail plot, the strength of this bond is tested. Mark is being forced to marry Charlotte in order to save Matthew from a devastating scandal. Hurting his brother is out of the question, but he does not want to marry Charlotte. All he wants is more Passion. As much as he can get.

I was totally overwhelmed by Passion! Expecting a typical historical in which most sensuality is flowery and overwrought, I was pleasantly surprised with this explicit and erotic story. Don't let the sizzling hot sex fool you though, as there is much more to offer. Passion and Mark become more than just sexual partners. As their relationship grows, so do the obstacles to their happiness. Although not easily tied up, the resolution is very satisfying. I liked that Passion was strong and not a weak, romantic girl. She finds joy in what Mark offers, but does not let her love compromise her principles. Although selfish at first, Mark grows and becomes a true man, a man worthy of Passion. What begins as an erotic adventure becomes a poignant love story. I loved Passion! New author Lisa Valdez is now on my auto-buy list!

Book Review: All steam not much story
Summary: 1 Stars

Two strangers become very intimate within the first twenty pages and it went downhill from there. It was so overdone that I had trouble finding an actual story beyond the very hot love scenes.

Book Review: Anonymous copulation in a museum...ahhh romance!
Summary: 2 Stars

Silly story of uninhibited coitus between two strangers.
Melodramatic, common erotica about amazingly endowed lovers. They overcome all odds in their quest for great physical/emotional love.
Oh, least I forget, the usual sad, abused pasts for both of our versatile protagonists. Fortunately, the contrived angst didn't overwhelm the salacious narrative.
The real story is the sensual appetite of these two lovers. They achieve physical satisfaction in the vertical, horizontal, dorsal and ventral positions, whether clothed or unclothed, in private or in public.
Hooray for Passion! What stamina!
I can not say that this was well written. No. Nor was there any remarkable literary form or style - excepting the overuse of the common street terms for male and female reproductive organs.
The author has used her abilities and energies to create a slight erotic fantasy. The Novel was acceptable. It was not-very-Victorian, not-very-historical, not-very-exciting erotica.
Not recommended.

Book Review: Aptly named.
Summary: 5 Stars

A chance meeting between a widow and a strange man leads to sex behind a screen in a... museum? (hey, I wasn't paying all that close attention to the setting--believe me, you wouldn't either. <g> suffice to say it was public) And that's just the beginning.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but it wasn't what I got. With all the explicit sex scenes, you might expect it to be erotica, but there's a depth of emotion in this book that makes it more than that.

The good:
Explicit sex scenes that don't make you cringe, giggle, or skim.
Three-dimensional characters, including the secondary characters.
A no-way-out plot that was solved honestly.

The bad:
If you're at all squeamish about explicit sex scenes or graphic language, this book isn't for you.
I didn't expect I'd be needing the Kleenex, and I had to go hunt for some. *sniff*

The excellent:
The in-depth emotional portrayal of a couple whose passion unlocks the needs and feelings they've kept hidden.

The verdict:
I've been recommending this to everyone, and Lisa Valdez has shot straight to my must-buy list on the strength of one single book.
