Book Reviews of Pay It ForwardBook Review: A Tear Jerker! Summary: 3 Stars
I cried my eyes out! An excellent book! To think in a childs eyes that no matter who you are you are accepted. It is a well written book! Very heartwarming!
Book Review: A booster shot for the world Summary: 5 Stars
Moving, inspiring, and immensely readable. In additon to the simple but powerful message and movement of Paying it Forward, what I found equally interesting was the insight on human behaivor, specifically about how we see and treat others, but more importantly see and treat ourselves. A must read for all.
Book Review: A child makes the world a better place...... Summary: 4 Stars
Trevor Mckinney uses a school assignment to make the world a better place by doing good for 3 people and then having those 3 people help 3 others each who in turn help 3 others out each until it spreads all over. An excellent book and just the right one to read after all the tragedies with the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The characters Ruben St.Clair and Trevor were so wonderfully written that it seemed like they were real people. The humor is well done and the way people help others in this novel are touching. Now I have to watch the movie but since Ruben is not in it then I know that it will not be as good as the book. I will not reveal the ending but it was both happy and sad. I will now "pass it forward" (share the book with friends).
Book Review: A eloquent concept, beautifully written Summary: 5 Stars
Pay It Forward is based around an absolutely stunning concept of paying favors forward instead of back, thus creating a rapor among strangers. The concept itself was stunningly simple and very well carried out by young Trevor. The novel was refreshingly written from the interesting perspective of a journalist who originally had nothing to do with the Pay It Forward concept. It was a collection of his musings, interviews with the key characters in the book that had obviously been taken after the fact, and Trevor's diary entries. It was littered with the thoughts of the journalist--the most inspiring and shocking being the anecdote of his broken-down car, the good samaritan, and the shocking revolution that something had caused this generosity to be a common occurance. From that point on, the book had me hooked and without the ability to put it down. Written any other way, this book would not have been as inspiring. It was written from a point of view that I could understand and sympathize with--the outsider point of view. Had the book been written entirely in third-person, it would not have had the profound impact on me that it did. A friend of mine bought the book and passed it on to me. I enjoyed it emensely, leading me to purchase a hardcover copy for my small collection of inspiring books. Since then, I have lent my copy out to many people, all of whom loved it.
Book Review: A good-hearted story, but it contains some graphic violence Summary: 4 Stars
It's a sweet concept and it's obvious the author's heart is in the right place. Unfortunately, Ms. Hyde can't always pull off the multiple points of view (eight? nine?) convincingly, so some of the voices seem very contrived. But I enjoyed the book, despite the melodramatic ending. Warning to parents: there are several scenes of very graphic violence that are not appropriate for children.
