Book Reviews of Pay It Forward

Book Review: I'm really giving this 4 1/2 stars
Summary: 4 Stars

Okay, firstly, I command you to forget the movie ever existed. Done that? Good! Secondly, a warning- this is NOT a book for cynics who insist on being cynical.

Pay it Forward is a wonderfully refreshing novel about a boy in his early teens who decides to change the world. The characters are vivid and real- I found myself sympathizing with every one of them and really believing they were real. It's a fast read- if you've got some time on your hands and are determined to do so, you can read it easily in one sitting- the plot moves quickly and rarely ever slows down. It's sentimental, but not Hollywood sentimental, which is what the movie ended up being.

Hyde's style is crisp and terse, sometimes overly simplistic. This is a book that elementary school kids can read, it's that easy to understand, but this is also a book that older audiences can appreciate for its message and the inspiration it offers.

Book Review: INSPIRING
Summary: 5 Stars

This book won't take you long to read because it's WONDERFUL! I strongly reccommend reading it BEFORE seeing the movie because key characters have changed...Pay It Forward is inspiring, funny, tearful...I couldn't put it down. It's not sappy either. The story of giving to others unconditionally is set in the harsh reality of what we call our world!

Book Review: If you like this story, try this...
Summary: 3 Stars

This story reminds me of Magnificent Obsession by Lloyd C Douglas.

In that story, a young playboy, Merrick, while drinking too much, has an accident at a lake. The paramedics use the emergency equipment at the lakeside to save his life. Meanwhile, a famous neurosurgeon is at the same lake, but his life is not saved, since the equipment is already in use. When Merrick wakes up, he overhears the nurses saying what a shame that he survived and not the neurosurgeon Dr. Hudson, who has done so much for humanity. This makes him rethink his lifestyle, and do his best to replace the doctor that he deprived of life, and serve his fellow men in his place, partly because Dr. Hudson believed in anonymously helping others enriches and empowers the person who does so.

It is an excellent and engrossing read. The book is better than the movie, which stars Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman, mostly because the couple is supposed to be college-age, and Hudson & Wyman are too old.

Book Review: Inspirational
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought it without seeing the movie, and without having much of an idea what the book was about. I was pleased reading the first 2/3 of the book, but felt that it was average. It was not until the last third that I felt the power of the writing and characters take hold of me. This is a great read for anyone who wants to feel good. I would say anyone who believes in miracles, but even if you don't, this book will make you.

Book Review: It could happen
Summary: 5 Stars

The best book I've read in a long time, I could not put it down. The best thing about it is that while you are reading about Trevor's idea and how he accomplishes it, you are thinking to yourself, "Wow! What if this was actually possible?". Well...is'nt it?
