Book Reviews of Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life

Book Review: Simple yet profound
Summary: 4 Stars

This book significantly increased my awareness of how accessible peace of mind, body and spirit is. It reads very easy and the insights are simple observations that in our busy lives we often forget or take for granted. With mindfulness and 'enjoying doing the dishes' we can learn to grow from and fully enjoy the process of living and the diversity of life's various experiences. This book promotes world peace, one reader at a time, since peace on earth begins in the heart. I also highly recommend "Open Your Mind, Open Your Life: A Book of Eastern Wisdom" by Taro Gold. Both are simple yet profound.

Book Review: His best work!
Summary: 5 Stars

Thich Nhat Hanh is a prolific writer. I believe he has written over 70 books and this one has to be his finest.

Each ?chapter? may be as small as a few sentences or several pages but they speak volumes. Simple, direct, and insightful. This is a book you will refer back to over and over again. Each section can be read, set down, and reflected upon.

Thich Nhat Hanh is a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, who, during the Vietnam War, stepped outside of the monastery and began listening to people no matter their stance on the war. He is walking compassion. If you have the chance to hear him speak, do so. He is often in America and all over the world sharing his simply profound message of peace. Peace begins within us.

Book Review: Just breathe!
Summary: 5 Stars

Peace is Every Step is my favorite book on living in the present. It is simple and easy to read. Just a few minutes ago, I felt anger building over something someone had done to me in the past. I decided to just breathe (which can be done anytime while sitting, eating, walking, driving, etc.) as Nhat Hanh recommends. Within seconds, my thoughts were on my "in" breath and my "out" breath and I was back to the present instead of focusing on the past. The angry feeling passed and I am back to enjoying the beauty of the day. I hope the ideas in this book bring you as much peace as it has brought me.

Book Review: A practical guide to living well.
Summary: 5 Stars

My copy of this book is well worn. I have enjoyed many of Thich Nhat Hahn's books but this is the one I revisit time after time. I refer to it when coping with the stresses of living in the world, in my family and within myself. It has never failed to help me focus and clarify the essentials of the situation at hand. Now my sons, are getting married and beginning their own families. I am sharing this book with them as a wedding gift. I also have created a reading for their weddings from the sections on Real Love and Living Together. The thoughts expressed are meaningful to the new bride and groom and everyone in attendance. I treasure this book as a guide to mindful living.

Book Review: An excellent intro to mindfulness
Summary: 5 Stars

This book was given to me as a gift from a friend. It was a fitting means of delivery. It truly was a "gift". Thich Nhat Hanh has a wonderfully clear talent for writing and communicating his thoughts and ideas clearly and simply. Having read many books about mindfulness and meditation, I found this to be among the best. As a Christian, I found many of his methods for practicing mindfulness daily very practical and useful in deepening my own spiritual connection with God and the many people I interact with daily. It's a beautiful book. He is an eloquent champion of living with compassion, conviction, and humility.
