This book is basically a course text. There are excercises and answer keys. The theory is very much related to photography as well as many visual arts. It's very useful for someone who has trouble getting their image just right and needs to know what is missing or where an image should lead. Many great artist's quotes are on every page.
I would recommend it to anyone who is tired of photo books that just show shots of exotic lands and people and try to tell you that it's all about good composition and lighting. This book explains how to see good composition and how lighting makes an image interesting.
Dry, but once studied it will open your eyes.
