Book Reviews of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Book Review: Perhaps the most beautiful book in existence.
Summary: 5 Stars

For you sake, for your childrens' sake, for humanity's sake, read this book. Trust me, I'm a teenager.

Book Review: A delicious read, enthralls you from very first page
Summary: 5 Stars

This book takes you through a number of emotions including pity, humour, disgust and relief...you can almost smell and taste the France of yesteryear where the character travels, and the story will grip you right until the final sentance...this is a book you will read over and over

Book Review: No ifs, no buts - READ IT !
Summary: 5 Stars

This book must be literature's best kept secret.

Do what you can to get hold of a copy - buy it, borrow it, steal it if you have to - just make sure you read it.

The genius of the book is not so much how well written it is, more that Patrick has managed to turn what you would have thought would be a dull subject into a real page-turner.

Your great grandchildren will be reading this at school. It really belongs among the classics of all time.

Book Review: Beautifully written
Summary: 4 Stars

Such a compelling novel. One instantly becomes involved in the story and a tale that could seem fabulous or unbelievable in the hands of a lesser author becomes utterly engrossing. Pour yourself a whisky, settle down and enjoy. (TIP : Take this to the Mediterranean with you, there is something about reading this in the sun that made it better somehow!)

Book Review: Grotesque and vulgar
Summary: 3 Stars

At risk of being completely at odds with other reviewers, I have to say that this nasty piece of fiction did nothing for me.

The author, for ever at cross-purposes, at one time explains how good looks, age, sex, etc have nothing whatsoever to do with attraction (or magnetism or whatever) - it's all down to an individual's scent - and yet all the victims are wildly beautiful, young, female virgins.

At times this novel verges on obscene, usually simply hovering on vulgarity.

The fact that I finished this book at all is purely down to the writer's outstanding style which shines through the unjustifiable story-line.
