Book Review: A Must Have Book
Summary: 5 Stars

There is simply not a better book on personal finance. The author provides the reader with REAL information on complicated topics. The book can be read straight through or on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of this book is that Mr. Tyson actually gives his personal recommendations on which mutual funds to buy, purchasing real estate, how to invest for your children, etc. No hype, nothing to sell, just straightforward methods on making the most out of your money. Don't let the "dummies" in the tittle fool you, this book is for everyone.

Book Review: This book should be mandatory reading for the human race.
Summary: 5 Stars

From the title alone, I wouldn't have bought this book. I mean, who wants a personal finance book that's intended for a dummy? I was saving money, I owned mutual funds that were doing well, no credit card debt -- all the things that you're supposed to do, I was doing.

I was surprised at how much I learned from this book. Rather than focus on investments alone (which *are* covered, and in a much plainer and more accessible way than something like Andrew Tobias' "Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need"), it looks at every aspect of your financial life.

Do you understand life insurance? The ins and outs of home loans? Think options trading will make money? What about market timing newsletters? Does paying other people to manage your money make sense? Which professions are more interested in the commissions they get than your interests, and what should you do to avoid them? Should you divert 401(k) money into a custodial account for your kids? If you're saving up to buy a house in another two years, should that money be invested in the stock market? Sometimes there are simple answers, but many times the answer is that it depends on who you are, how you like to live, and where you want to be in 30 or 40 years. Rather than tell you how you should be living your life, Tyson asks you to decide what is best for *you*, and suggests how to get there.

It's split cleanly into sections that stand by themselves, and written in a style that can be comprehended by a dummy, but isn't "dumbed down" or condescending. The purpose of the book is to show you how to maintain control of your life and avoid getting ripped off by the multitude of self-interested "consultants".

The first dime anybody invests should be in this book.

Book Review: Read this and laaugh all the way to the bank!
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the most entertaining finance books ever written. Thoroughly covers all personal finance aspects in a clear, concise, and humorous format. It will leave you rolling on the floor (with glee) as it cuts through the fog that exists in personal money management, tax and estate planning, and investment practices. Eric Tyson has written one of the best financial management books ever. This should be required reading in all schools, and especially your personal reading list.

Book Review: One incredible book that will change your spending habits
Summary: 5 Stars

Strongly recommend the book because the author tells readers how to use money in a correct way and not in a wasted way.

Book Review: Tells you how to make the most from your cash!
Summary: 5 Stars

Personal Finance for Dummies helps you sort out your finances from cutting wasteful spending to planning your savings. It makes the point that 'sheltering' you savings in tax free investment accounts (like pension schemes)can improve your financial health over the long-term. The book follows the tradition of 'Dummies' books in presenting a clear, concise and witty guide to a subject, in this case, managing money. I run my money quite well and I was not sure (being a resident of England) how much this book would help me. However, I bought it on the strength of the 'Dummies' brand name, researched the US financial terms and found their UK equivalent and I learned an incredible amount. It set me considering matters I had not thought about before. A friend tried the principles in the book and after some adjustment time he has got rid of his credit card debt and is saving on a regular basis for the first time. He feels much better about money as well. If you want to take your finances by the 'scruff of the neck' and get them working for you (instead of the other way around) then this is a great book!! It will be the best $15.99 you spend.
