Book Review: Another Fine Entry in the Jack Reacher Series

PERSUADER is the seventh novel in the "Jack Reacher" series by Lee Child. Reacher is the ultimate loner, an ex-military policeman who travels around the country by himself, getting into one violent adventure after another.
I enjoy the Reacher books. They are essentially action novels, an American version of the James Bond character. They are over-the-top and unrealistic, but they are brilliantly intense and feature some of the best fight scenes I've ever read in a book series.
I've read six novels in the series, and I would put PERSUADER in the bottom half of what I've read. It's very good, but I thought some key characters (such as the family Reacher stays with) were underdeveloped and uninteresting. Also, even by Jack Reacher standards, the plot is grossly unrealistic. You have to believe that a group of FBI agents would engage in a major operation outside their own agency, and then enlist a complete stranger to perform a major undercover operation for them. I didn't believe it for a minute, but I still had fun reading it.
You can read the Reacher novels in any order, but my advice is to start with KILLING FLOOR, the first in the series, which I think is the best book I've read so far. I also enjoyed ONE SHOT and ECHO BURNING.
